2019 Board of Directors Candidate Bios
Jennifer Brown Dargan
As Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network Assistant Director, I am responsible for programming, scheduling, and for ensuring editorial diversity and quality. I have also lead the web team and managed the on-air fundraising efforts. I'm part of the organizational team responsible for changing our workplace culture to become more inclusive.
Previously, I worked in information technology for the Wisconsin State Legislature and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. My passions outside of HFSC are roller derby, winter sports, listening to podcasts, and re-learning about the world through the eyes of my two kids (Margo and Liam).
HFSC is truly my happy place. I appreciate how Janna, John and the staff are so intentionally welcoming. I love how the coaches nurture the swim and dive teams with care and skill. If I can be part of making pool environment as magical as it is for my family for others, that would give me great joy.
I have skills in project management, staff development, writing and editing. If you have a need for me, you can put me to work!

For my family, Hill Farm Swim Club isn't just a pool - it's where we meet up with friends and neighbors every evening for our after dinner swim; it's where we enjoy many fun events throughout the summer like the annual water ballet show, movie nights, Neon Night, and more; it's where our kids go bright and early each weekday morning for swim team practice and where we go even earlier many Saturday mornings throughout the summer for home swim meets. It is truly our home-away-from-home during the summer months and we feel so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful swim community.
Three years ago, when I was invited to submit my name for consideration for one of the open positions on the board, I jumped at the opportunity. Being able to give back to the place that brings so much joy to our community was a no-brainer. Upon being elected to the board, I was named Vice President, and assumed the duties associated with that position. Over the course of my three-year term, I have expanded this role to include many more responsibilities including: maintaining our website and social media accounts, assisting with software and hardware upgrades, serving as the primary liaison between HFSC and our swim/dive team apparel vendor, working on various fundraising initiatives, and helping bring back the Swim/Dive Team Siblings program. My passion for Hill Farm Swim Club is boundless and I am always willing to help in any way I can to make sure that HFSC continues to be the best pool around. I would be honored to serve on the board for another term and continue to work with the amazing group of individuals who keep Hill Farm running.
Outside of HFSC, I am the Operations Manager for a Madison-based investment firm, wife to an awesome cook and all-around great guy, and mom to two very active daughters (ages 10 & 12) and one of the sweetest dogs around.

When my family and I moved to the Hill Farms neighborhood 5 years ago, we all instantly felt at home here. Living just a few houses down from the pool, of course we joined as soon as we could! We quickly discovered that the Hill Farm pool is a huge asset to this neighborhood and provides a strong sense of community for adults and kids alike.
I have served one term on the HFSC Board of Directors. For the past year and a half I have been the Membership Chair for Current Members. In this role I assist members who wish to change membership types, have questions about their memberships, and maintain the stock sale waiting list. I work closely with the Treasurer and the Membership Chair for New Members to facilitate timely stock sales for our members who are ready to move on and sell their membership. I have also assisted with events, swim team apparel and fundraising activities as well.
In my professional life I am a Charge RN on the Postpartum unit at UnityPoint Health - Meriter. In my free time I enjoy canoeing, camping, knitting, sewing, gardening, and taking my dogs to the dog park. I live with my husband Drew, my daughter Meadow, and our two dogs. If I am chosen to continue to serve on the Board of Directors I will bring a positive attitude, strong problem solving skills, a willingness to pitch in where needed, and an eagerness to see our neighborhood pool continue thrive for the years to come.

I have been on the HFSC board for 9 years; serving my first term as the Board Secretary, my second as the Social & Grievance Coordinator and the third term as the Outreach Coordinator. During my last 2 terms, I organized Hill Farm Swim Club social events, namely the Annual Adult Social. I also worked with the pool directors to arrange the weekly Food Carts, Yoga in the Yard, the Hot Dogger, and more. Simply put, each year I tried to make life even more enjoyable than it already was the year before at Hill Farm.
My husband, Jacob, and I have FOUR beautiful children: James (15), Ella (12), Tommy (10) and Tess (7). My family joined HFSC when James was 4 years old and we all immediately fell in love with the HFSC community/family. James is extremely passionate about diving and Ella is equally passionate about swimming. I enjoy reaching out to new neighbors and potential members and connecting them to HFSC.
HFSC is my second home. It is easy to sing the praise of a place where the lessons, the staff, the atmosphere and the members are all grade-A (MOO-Rah).
